Biography

Aloun Marchal is an improviser, dancer and choreographer. French artist living in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Aloun’s choreographic work has developped in two main directions.

One is the interdisciplinarity embodied by the performers. He often asks the performers to be responsible for the music, whether they create the soundscape live (Bibi Ha Bibi, SonoR, Anonym Messias) or mix it live (AVATARED), at the same time as being responsible for the physical work. Aloun is amazed by the diversity of forms human expression can take and he enjoys mixing them and experiment specific performance langages.

The second direction is inclusive performances where people that are the invisible of our society, the one that we often don’t know how to relate too, are given visibility when performing and an occasion to share their perceptions of our world. It can be children with physical variations (L’Age d’Or, Parc) or adults with physical variations (Trippel, Forme(s) de vie). Doing so, it often resolves a social knot as the performers invite the audience to look at them and the audience is then allowed to look at the performers. This journey as a choreographer and performer in the inclusive dance world started with the company SPINN and continues with the company Shonen where Aloun Marchal, the choreographer Eric Minh Cuong Castaing and the dramaturge Marine Relinger have retrospectively started a long term creative collaboration.

Aloun is supported by the swedish art council in 2025 through a structural support attributed to the production bureau Possibilitas.

Aloun decided to start dancing professionally when he understood that thinking wasn’t enough. At this moment, he felt he wasn’t able to experience anything without naming it. Something like a wanderer unable to take his eyes away from the map.
Since then he has been fascinated by the process of making sense as well as the process of not making sense.
